Secrets of the Baby Whisperer
Written by jlz on January 22, 2006 – 10:37 am -[Update: I found out that the author of this book has forged many of her credentials, including her degree and work experience. Apparently her recommendations are not supported by aap.org and many pediatricians. So this book is now moved to rejects.]
Have been soooo busy late work lately it’s unbelievable. Haven’t had much time at all to do any type of resarch for anZel, either reading or checking out equipment.
A good friend of ours gave us a stack of books to read. One of them is
I started it reading it with the few spare moments I had before bedtime and have found it to be tremendously helpful (even though I have no anZel to whisper to yet.)
I very much agree with many of the things that Tracy Hogg said in the books, such as her E.A.S.Y routine.
Also learned a lot on breastfeeding (not that I will be doing it) and baby’s behavior, etc.
A lot of what’s in there may seem common sense but I’ve seen enough parents/kids not able to do what the book says.
Haven’t finished it yet but I’ve already learned alot from it. Will post more thoughts here later.
But if you haven’t read it yet, it’s definitely worth picking up a copy and go through.

Written by jlz on January 20, 2006 – 10:45 am -As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I started talking to anZel quite a while back everyday about the same time.
I basically tell him about my day, what I did, how it went, etc. Lately I’ve also started reading Chinese poems to him, e.g. stuff from Tang and Song dynasties.
My wife, b33b3r, told me that lately anZel has been waking up (moving around, being active) around time when I am suppose to be reading/talking to him, even if he was sleeping before that.
I found that to be very interesting. I have read from many sources that you are supposed to put the newborn infants on a routine so they can better adjust to the new world. I never knew you could put an unborn child in the same routine as well.
I wonder if there’s any research been done in this area. Have you heard of any?

Written by jlz on January 5, 2006 – 8:32 am -My brother’s kid, Derick, has dry skin issue and rubs it all the time. Asked around the neighborhood and got these tips (Thanks Ann!).
- Uses the Eureka cream from http://www.elenascollection.co.uk/indexjs.html for flare ups (break outs).
- The eczema parents circle, a yahoo group, is very helpful.
- Buy night clothes from http://www.eczemaclothing.com/ so her son doesn’t scratch himself…
- It’s good to put either coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil as a moisturizer/conditioner for skin
- If the kid is not allergic to oatmeal, oatmeal bath is soothing for irritated skin, so basically you ground up the oatmeal and then put it in the bath water and let him sit in for a bit, and pat dry with towel, then put on the oil.
- Sometimes you can ground up the oatmeal, mix with cool water into a paste, and use that for flare up (that’s not so bad that requires eureka cream)
- Can also use aveeno products, http://www.aveeno.com/detailAction.do?id=3802, for baby bath instead of mixing your own oatmeal.
- Don’t rub the skin when showering and stuff
- Try “neem oil”, some kinda indian oil, as an alternative to olive oil. But read up on it before doing anything.
- This site, http://www.solveeczema.org/, is very useful as well.
- Get a blood test to see what he’s really allergic to.
- Keeping the baby too warm probably irritates the skin due to sweat.
Anything else?
