Baby’s dry/itchy skins

My brother’s kid, Derick, has dry skin issue and rubs it all the time. Asked around the neighborhood and got these tips (Thanks Ann!).

  • Uses the Eureka cream from http://www.elenascollection.co.uk/indexjs.html for flare ups (break outs).
  • The eczema parents circle, a yahoo group, is very helpful.
  • Buy night clothes from http://www.eczemaclothing.com/ so her son doesn’t scratch himself…
  • It’s good to put either coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil as a moisturizer/conditioner for skin
  • If the kid is not allergic to oatmeal, oatmeal bath is soothing for irritated skin, so basically you ground up the oatmeal and then put it in the bath water and let him sit in for a bit, and pat dry with towel, then put on the oil.
  • Sometimes you can ground up the oatmeal, mix with cool water into a paste, and use that for flare up (that’s not so bad that requires eureka cream)
  • Can also use aveeno products, http://www.aveeno.com/detailAction.do?id=3802, for baby bath instead of mixing your own oatmeal.
  • Don’t rub the skin when showering and stuff
  • Try “neem oil”, some kinda indian oil, as an alternative to olive oil. But read up on it before doing anything.
  • This site, http://www.solveeczema.org/, is very useful as well.
  • Get a blood test to see what he’s really allergic to.
  • Keeping the baby too warm probably irritates the skin due to sweat.

    Anything else?
