My bag is empty…
Written by jlz on May 6, 2006 – 11:12 am -Ok, my bag of tricks is now officially empty.
Last night was a ROUGH night. anZel was cranky and would not go to sleep without
- Someone holding and rocking him
- Putting him underneath the kitchen vent fan
- Swaddling and shushing him (loud)
- Sucking on my fingers
I was not able to lay him down at all. Once he’s on his back, he will start twitching and moaning. Within a minute of that, he will start crying and screaming.
I told him what beeber’s 2 year old niece tells other little babies, “bb, shut up!” That obviously didn’t help, he just screamed louder.
I even tried letting him cry for a few minutes to see if he will stop. Nope..no help. He just continues on nonstop.
I then put him in the stroller and put him underneath the kitchen vent. That worked to some extent. He fell asleep for a little while. During that time, I updated my secret weapon. I used Audacity to create a 75 minute long non-stop vent noice CD.
Just as I started burning the CD, he started crying again because it was feeding time. I quickly fed him 80ml of formula and he seemed content.
I took him upstairs and started playing the vent CD. That certainly kept him quite for like an hour. However, he was wide awake the whole time. His eyes were wide open and wondering around. Given that he’s awake, I couldn’t really fall asleep (the vent noise didn’t help either). I was anticipating that he will start crying anytime (anticipation is a bad idea!!).
Finally around 6AM in the morning, I had to lay down the law of the land. I swaddled the little dude and started rocking him and shushing him and letting him suck on my finger all at the same time. Basically the whole bag of tricks were used.
The tricks worked!!! Somewhat… I think it worked mainly is because he was really tired and there was daylight! In any case, I laid him down next to me and we slept together from 6 to 8:30. Every once in a while he still makes some noise, but I was able to calm him with just some light rocking.
Isn’t he peaceful in this picture? Let me assure you that it was not the case last night!!
Around 8:30 beeber took over and he’s been quite since.

Written by jlz on May 5, 2006 – 7:21 am -I used to read alot of trade/tech magazines…eWeek, Information week, CIO, CSO, etc etc etc…some weekly, some monthly…then other books…and lots of blogs…
Well, let’s say I haven’t done any of these readings since anZel came…only thing I have been reading is him…figuring out when he’s hungry, when he did his numbers, when he needs to be burped, etc…basically have to read him like a book…
Having said that, wouldn’t trade anZel for any of those magazines under any circumstances
As a side note, typing with one hand and holding him with another is not all that fun either…

The multi-use boppy pillow, aside from breast-feeding and letting the baby situp, you can also use it to make sure the baby doesn’t turn on his side.

Written by jlz on May 1, 2006 – 9:31 pm -We took anZel to the farmer’s market yesterday. It was a really beautiful day with the sun beating down on us.
anZel seems to be really comfortable in the sling one of our neighbor/friend gave us. He basically slept the whole time. That didn’t prevent people from stopping to check him out though. Everyone was saying how cute he is. Some stopped to check out the sling because he seemed so comfortable. (You can get it here.)
