anZel should be living in Deutschland
Written by beeber on September 3, 2006 – 10:22 pm -When anzel first came home with us, I read up on Dr. Sears’ book. One thing that stuck in my mind is that I should “anticipate” our little man’s needs. At first, it seems easy to do. Feed him before he cries bloody murder…change him before his bum is marinated.
I carefully documented every feeding for anZel (yes, I am a nerd) in order to anticipate (and protect my ear drums) his next feeding. I would heat up the bottle about .5 hour before I think he would be hungry. If I do it JUST right, he would take the bottle and I would feel Bob Barker calling my name to play “Price is Right”.
However, MANY TIMES he would arch his back when he sees the bottle in sight. It’s a BLOODY KILLER when it’s 3 AM and I just want to get him fed and get back to bed. So, I do what I could to calm him down by singing, rocking and talking some sense into him without waking myself up (I know, who am I fooling?!) Sometimes this process takes 5 minutes and sometimes it takes 50 minutes. Yes, 3, 4, 5 hours may have passed but “no mum, it’s just not time”. Yes, he only had 7 oz for the past 10 hours. AND “NO MUM, it’s just not time!!!” Then I realize…anzel has an internal clock that runs like Deutschland train schedule! He will take the bottle at the precise moment that he thinks it’s the right time. Not a millisecond before or a millisecond after.
