anZel signs airplane…sometimes he will sign airplane before I even knew there’s a plane above. I think he’s associated the airplane engine sound as well, coz sometimes all we hear is the engine noise and don’t see the actual plane.

trim to shave

Sigh.

Anzel’s hair has been growing kinda long and the hair grows straight up. So his looked like a porcupine the last few weeks. Yesterday morning beeber and I all of the sudden got the urge to trim anZel’s hair. Part of reason is that we will be going back to see my parents and we wanted anZel to look good. This will be the first time my dad will see anZel.

So anyways, we wanted give anZel’s hair a trim. Not sure why we picked yesterday morning since it was like the worst morning to do anything. Both beeber and I had very early morning conference calls.

I started trimming anZel’s hair and his head kept moving. After a few mistakes, his head started to like the moon with craters all over. By then, beeber’s pretty pissed that she agreed to the trim coz there’s no freaking way we can save the hair cut. So at the end I had to shave him, for the 3rd time!!! sigh…

The good thing is, in both pictures, he’s thanking somebody (that hand gesture is “thank you” in Chinese). So atleast he’s not pissed about the shave.

I think beeber’s pretty pissed coz I’ve been saying we should shave anZel. I think she thinks I just took this as an opportunity to do that…

Today’s weather was great. anZel’s been stuck inside for like 3 days now due to the rain in the area. So today we finally were able to take him out to the park. He did his usual routines of swinging and sliding, then we did a bit of walking excercise.

First, we walked around the park just a bit…

Then, we got out the stroller and walked on the sidewalk by the house some more…he definitely got plenty of excercise today.

anZel - random video..

anZel’s doing pretty good overall lately. His ezcema is somewhat under control as long as we are careful of what he eats. He doesn’t try to rub his face as much now, except when his teething is bugging him.

He really likes the play table that beeber got him a few weeks back. He can walk around it a couple times and play with each side of the table for a bit. He can even recognize the frog and little girl figure on the play table!

joy of motherhood >> 3rd quarter

I opened the garage door to get ready for work this morning. anZel started to wave bye bye to me. My nose muscles contracted and tears filled my eyes. I thought the past three months have been good training to be away from this 28” bundle for ten hours a day.

Some days, I marveled at how the past three months have flown by. However, when I look at the day to day struggle of balancing work and home, it seems long and I am glad I have made it this far. Hands down to those who do parenting alone or don’t have family or friends close by. Nine months down this path, I have not been converted to one of those mums who say motherhood is the best thing ever happen to them. In fact, when I think of this sentiment, I am terrified that I am a terrible mum for not enjoying myself. When will this epiphany come to me?

anZel has transformed from the blob of flesh to a little person. I am constantly amazed that he is becoming a person. To be honest, I am amazed that there something between his ears. He can identify numerous things around the house. We have also been teaching him the “dangerous” things in the house. I told him that the power supply for my laptop was “dangerous” one day. He saw the power supply the next day and waved his hand saying “no”. Do you mean I am not just talking to a blob of flesh? Each morning, he opens the blinds in the morning and closes them in the evening with me. He always directs me where to open and close the blinds when I tell him it’s time to do so. At night, he shrieks when I tell him it’s time for books.

Then I start to think about how we decide that this miniature have no idea of how this world work? I don’t know if it’s because I have never been around children until now. It is about the same sorry feeling that we feel we are much happier than those who live in third world country. I felt as qualified as I could be to lead anZel when he was born. As he grows and learns, I feel less confident. If he is able to connect the two and two together, pretty soon he will realize I am not much of a leader for him. Motherhood is as much learning from the child as teaching or leading.

anZel with the walker and Chinese opera

anZel’s on a mission to move these last few days. Today he’s decided to move with the walker.

The background music is an old Cantonese Opera called “Princess Chang Ping” (帝女花).

Somehow I remembered the tunes of this opera from way back when (I was probably 13 or 14) and had to find it on the net. I found almost the full set but there are also some new mixes of this oldie. anZel seems to really like this portion of the opera (妆台秋思). Here’s a few lines from the opera:

anZel crawling

anZel’s learned to crawl in the last couple of weeks after we finally allowed him. We haven’t let him do that since he rubs his face on the carpet everytime his face is near it. His eczema really itches him. Now he’s doing pretty good.
