I was tasked to supervise bath time for the kids. I was hoping to get some more reading in while on the job. Anzel has also requested me to read to him while he is taking a bath (SUCH luxury!). In the meantime, I have already brought my book in. Anzel had a worried look on his face and said “I don’t want you to read that book (thinking I would read the Known world for him).” I asked him why. He said the book was sad and that he would put the slaves in his heart. We talked about keeping people who died in our hearts.

I have yet to come up with an adequate answer for him.

Since going to new school, anZel has finished his lunch a handful of times. So he and I have a deal that if he finishes his lunch, he can bring juice or something he likes to school for lunch. He was doing pretty good for a couple of days by finishing his lunch and snack (usually is finished snack and half empty lunch box) until Friday. Upon examining the again half empty lunch box, I gave him a look (not necessary threatening) and reminded him that there will be no juice for Monday. He said “What? The look won’t change the result.”
